At the Podium
Though best known to audiences worldwide for his iconic performances in Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series All That, the sitcom Kenan & Kel, and the film Good Burger throughout the 1990s, Kel Mitchell has become known to a new generation of fans thanks to his role as rap superstar Double G on the hit Nickelodeon series Game Shakers.
Speaking about growing up in the fast-paced, high pressure entertainment industry, Mitchell discusses how constant interactions with both fans and the media forced him to lead a double life—one as an energetic, silly composite of the on-screen personas that fans everywhere expected to see, and the other as Kel Mitchell, who quickly found himself dealing with mental health issues and substance abuse problems that wreaked havoc with his life.
Now, working steadily, living sober, and devoted to his Christian faith, Mitchell reflects on the dual nature of life he once experienced. He realized that regardless of their personal circumstances, many others young and old alike suffer as he once did—forcing themselves to appear as a ‘character’ in their own life and hide their true selves and feelings, while secretly struggling with issues beneath the surface.
Charismatic, kind, and genuinely inspirational, Kel Mitchell implores audiences to be true to themselves and to lead a life of happiness and success through a combination of hard work, dedication, resiliency, and faith.
