Veteran magazine editor Tina Brown runs both Newsweek and The Daily Beast, the news website she launched in 2008, but their futures remain uncertain. Once jointly owned by IAC and late billionaire Sidney Harman, in July 2012 Harman’s family announced it would no longer invest in the publications. IAC now has a controlling stake, and chairman Barry Diller said Newsweek may move from print to primarily digital. The ownership juggle hasn’t lessened Brown’s impact or penchant for publicity. A 2012 cover sparked controversy after dubbing U.S. President Barack Obama “the first gay president” for his support of same-sex marriage. Brown, a major supporter of women’s rights and leadership, this year gathered fellow power women Angelina Jolie, Sheryl Sandberg and Christine Lagarde at her annual Women in the World Summit.
