Liz Lange: Two Sides of the Same Coin
LIZ LANGE: Work-life balance is a misnomer. It implies that the business of “life” is not “work.” Some of the busiest people I know are full-time parents, far busier than many successful CEOs. Conversely, I know many people in business who have not reached the level of success they would like to achieve despite devoting their entire efforts to it. One of the most common mistakes I find that people make is to think that work and life are two separate concepts rather than two sides of the same coin.
There are certain qualities that one needs in order to be successful in either one’s business or personal life. Both business and personal life require ample amounts of determination, drive, energy, effort, enthusiasm, initiative and prioritization. It is possible to be successful both as a business person and parent, but neither is easy. They both take a lot of hard work – just as being successful in either one of these pursuits.
And it’s important to note that the ability to delegate both “at home” responsibilities as well as “at work” responsibilities is a huge help, too.
