If Hollywood teaches you anything, it’s to be successful in as many arenas as possible.
Neal Baer and Jonathan Greene have been, between them, producers on “ER,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and, currently, “A Gifted Man.” Now, they are the co-authors of a thriller called “Kill Switch,” which Kensington publishes on Tuesday. The actress Katherine Heigl is already attached to star in a film version, for which Messrs. Baer and Greene hope to write a screenplay.
Stars from the aforementioned shows showed up at a book party for the authors at Theatre 1871, including the character actress Margo Martindale, this year’s Emmy winner for “Justified,” who appears on “A Gifted Man.”
“Everybody loves the show,” Mr. Martindale told the writers, who are based in Los Angeles but come to New York to produce episodes.
“Kill Switch,” said Mr. Greene, started as a “very detailed” movie outline nine years ago, left in the proverbial bottom drawer: “Every year we’d say, ‘God, we should write this.'”
“Then our literary agent called and said, ‘Do you have a medical thriller?'” said Mr. Baer. “We did. She said write three chapters. Then write two more. She sold three books with the same character.”
