Nicholas Sparks launched his latest novel in the New Bern Mall Tuesday as people from all over the country stood in a line that stretched the length of building.

His latest book, “The Best of Me,” released by Grand Central Publishing, is his 17th novel. Ten of his novels have been New York Times best sellers and seven have been adapted into major-motion pictures.

The newest novel is about two former high school sweethearts reunited in Oriental, N.C. during a funeral. They are forced to confront the choices they’ve made in life.

Sparks, who took time to talk to everyone and pose for photographs, smiled and seemed to enjoy meeting his fans while signing book after book.

“The Best of Me” is about 85,000 words, he said. By the end of the day, he expected to write about 6,000 autographs and personal remarks.
