NFL draft notes —
WASHINGTON – Over a lunch of balsamic glazed sirloin, Giants running back Tiki Barber and Secretary of State Rice chewed over the details yesterday of the recent NFL draft.
Rice, a rabid football fan, sized up the league's picks with the 31-year-old Barber, who is looking beyond his football career and has taken an interest in broadcast journalism and international affairs.
Rice's assessment: It was a tough decision for the Houston Texans to pass on Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush in favor of defensive end Mario Williams, and her favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, did well by signing free agents before the draft.
Rice, a fitness enthusiast, also asked about Barber's offseason workout routine, and Barber talked about the rigors of his training.
Rice commented about seeing Barber on a recent “Fox and Friends” talk show.
“I saw you on TV,” Rice told him. “You did great.”
Asked whether he might run for office some day, Barber told a reporter: “The only thing I'm running for right now is touchdowns.”
