Macfarlane Fox just picked up Seth MacFarlane’s “American Dad” for a seventh season, which will carry the animated comedy through the 2012-13 season.
The show’s ratings have drifted down a bit since its 2005 premiere, but it still delivers a fairly dependable audience for Fox’s Sunday night animation block. Last season, it averaged 5.9 million total viewers, according to the Nielsen Co. On Sunday, 4.2 million viewers tuned in, although the show performed considerably better among adults ages 18 to 49 (2.0 rating/6 share).
“American Dad” tells the story of right-wing CIA agent Stan Smith (voiced by “Family Guy” creator MacFarlane) and his odd brood. Celebrity voices this season include Anjelica Huston, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Burt Reynolds and singer Cee-Lo Green.
