Areva names former US Energy Sec Abraham chairman of US unit

PARIS (AFX) – French nuclear energy group Areva announced that (a href=”http://greatertalent.com/biography.php?id=97″>Spencer Abraham, a former Secretary of Energy for US President George W Bush, has accepted the appointment as non-executive chairman of the company's US business Areva Inc.
The appointment becomes effective on March 1.
Secretary Abraham has been one of the true leaders for the advancement of nuclear power in America, and indeed, around the world,' Anne Lauvergeon, Areva CEO, said in a statement.
Abraham said: 'Ive always been impressed with AREVA and its achievements in the nuclear energy market. Their recent joint venture with Constellation Energy to establish UniStar Nuclear is an example of a unique concept for building the next generation of nuclear power plants in the US.'
Areva Inc has 5,300 employees and posted 2005 revenues of nearly 1.8 bln usd. With 40 locations in 20 states, Areva is the leading U.S. nuclear vendor and a key player in the electricity transmission and distribution sector, thev group said.
Abraham served as US Secretary of Energy from 2001 to 2005.
