Examiner: Jennifer Weiner talks books and her new TV show with Chicagoland fans

Fans of best-selling novelist Jennifer Weiner who drove to Vernon Hills, Ill., to hear her speak on Thursday received a double treat: behind-the-scenes tales of work on her books and the television show she co-created and co-produces, “State of Georgia”–and boxes of whoopie pies, Weiner’s favorite dessert, which Weiner personally paid for, to the surprise of fans and Cook Memorial Public Library officials who coordinated the event. (Library officials assumed Weiner’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, had paid for the treats, which were made by Chicagoland’s Bleeding Heart Bakery.)

Weiner looked tan, relaxed, and healthy as she sat before a crowd of fans on a stage in the Hawthorn Middle School North gymnasium, wearing a short-sleeved black t-shirt, a black-and-white checkered skirt and a jewel-encrusted headband that sparkled underneath the stage lights, reading from her recent release, Then Came You, and taking questions from the audience.  Read More…
