I had the opportunity to catch up with Marlee Matlin as she came to check out the 86th floor Observatory following her appearance on Good Morning America to help promote an upcoming All American Sign Language episode of ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. The drama puts deaf characters played by deaf of hard of hearing actors like Marlee at the center of the show. Marlee, who plays the school counselor, is excited to see the viewer reaction from what they see as an experiment. Marlee’s in New York to promote the show’s all new upcoming entirely American Sign Language episode of the drama to air on Monday evening. As she is currently the only deaf performer to ever win an Academy Award for a leading role, she is very close to promoting overall ASL awareness.
About the episode: When news of the school’s closing spreads throughout campus, Daphne leads the students of Carlton School for the Deaf in arranging a demonstration to take place on the night of the “Romeo and Juliet” play, in which Daphne has the lead role. Meanwhile, as one of a handful of hearing students in the school, Bay’s attempt to be part of the campaign is challenged.
The show airs Monday, March 4 at 8:00PM ET/PT on ABC Family and you won’t want to miss it!
