The revelation that our government obtained a court order for customer records of Verizon has reignited a debate in our country over security and liberty in a time of war or danger. This tension is as old as the Republic.
Our enemies have demonstrated their willingness to use any advantage or tool to hurt us. I believe our government should use all available technology to protect us, so long as there are sufficient checks and balances to discourage abuse. Government searches are lawful if they are reasonable. In this instance, information was sought pursuant to a statute passed by Congress and obtained under the constraints of a court order. Key members of Congress were briefed regarding these activities.
