MotherBoard: Media rivals battle for eyeballs

Anthony Zuiker, creator of the blockbuster crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, spoke in New York last week at the Digitas “newfronts” to tout his latest projects, which are squarely focused on programming for the Web.

“I’m sick of the suits and malarkey,” panned Anthony Zuiker, creator of the blockbuster crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He was speaking to advertising buyers in New York last week at the Digitas “newfronts,” a glitzy gathering to sell ads and build hype for original shows made expressly for the Internet.

His jibe was aimed at traditional network television, seen apparently as stuffy in contrast by some. The producer was there to tout his latest projects, which are squarely focused on programming for the Web. This year’s events gained some heavy-hitting support from the likes of Google Inc., Yahoo Inc., ABC and others looking to capitalize on — or keep up with — shifting viewer habits.
