Exclusive Representation by Greater Talent Network

Called "the best science writer of his generation" by The Washington Post and "the best popular science writer in the English language today" by The Christian Science Monitor, author and filmmaker Timothy Ferris ranks among the world's foremost science communicators. His ten visionary books and three acclaimed PBS specials -- Seeing in the Dark, Life Beyond Earth, and The Creation of the Universe -- have opened the eyes of millions of Americans to the wonders of the universe. A frequent contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books, Ferris also produced the Voyager phonograph record, an artifact of human civilization now exiting the solar system aboard the twin Voyager interstellar space probes.

The New York Times named Ferris's earlier books Coming of Age in the Milky Way and The Whole Shebang as two of the most important books published in the twentieth century and his most recent release, Seeing in the Dark, one of the seven best books published in 2002. A former Rolling Stone editor, Ferris is the author of over 100 articles, essays and reviews in such publications as Harper's Bazaar, Life, National Geographic, Newsweek and The New York Times.

In talks illustrated by stunning multimedia presentations, Ferris reports on startling new research in cosmology that alters our view of the potential fate of the universe, explores the connection between science and the liberal democracies, and shows how technological breakthroughs have made it possible for backyard stargazers to probe the depths of the universe. In his talk Dark Energy and the End of Time, Ferris focuses on the discovery of a mysterious "dark energy" force accelerating the expanding universe that raises new questions about how -- and when -- our universe might come to an end.

AT A GLANCE: A multifaceted scholar, Ferris has taught in five disciplines at four universities, and is currently professor emeritus at the University of California - Berkeley. He has received two American Institute of Physics prizes, two American Association for the Advancement of Science awards, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. His books have been nominated for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize.

A consultant to NASA on the long-term goals of space exploration, Ferris has served on the space agency's Near-Earth Object Steering Group and was a candidate to fly aboard the Space Shuttle as part of the "Journalist in Space" program.
