Perry Moore

Author, "Hero"

Exclusive Representation by Greater Talent Network

"Hero," the ground-breaking first novel by Perry Moore is definitely not your typical coming of age story. It tells the story of Thom Creed, a teenager grappling not only with high school, a strained family life and sexual orientation, but also with his own budding superpowers. In an unforgettable novel with extraordinary characters, Moore reminds us of the significance of teamwork and family, while recognizing that it is not the mask you wear that makes a hero, it's what's in your heart.

While "Hero" is his first novel, Moore is no stranger to fantasy literature. A longtime production executive for Walden Media, Moore was instrumental in bringing C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" series to the big screen. He served as executive producer for the hit film "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," and is at work on the second and third films in the series, "Prince Caspian," and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," respectively. Following the success of "The Chronicles of Narnia," the C.S. Lewis Company appointed Moore to write "The Official Illustrated Movie Companion" for the film, which became a New York Times best seller.

His other credits at Walden Media include such films as "I Am David," "Bridge to Terabithia," "The Giver," and "Manhunt." Prior to working at Walden, Moore worked at MTV and VH1 and was part of the original production team for the "Rosie O'Donnell Show" and a development executive for the hit film "Blow."

In a compelling program with a powerful message, Moore explores the universal themes of alienation, identity, acceptance and self-empowerment. Spurred on by the unfair treatment of gay super heroes in comics, Moore touches on the genre's treatment of gay characters and the need for positive roll models, as well as relating how his own experiences are reflected in "Hero."

"I wanted to teach people that what makes you unique is actually very special and that very thing that may make you feel alienated, if you're willing to embrace it, can become the most empowering thing in your life."

Moore is currently co-directing a documentary about legendary children's book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak with partners Hunter Hill and filmmaker Spike Jonze. He is also co-directing and co-writer of "Lake City," a searing southern drama that tells the story of a mother (Sissy Spacek) and son who reunite under desperate circumstances years after a family tragedy drove them apart.

Moore runs Bank Street Production Company with partners Allison Sarofim and Hunter Hill. He lives in New York City with his partner, Hunter Hill.
