Kenan Thompson & Jason Dorsey
Exclusive Representation by Greater Talent Network
Kenan Thompson, a native of Atlanta, first received national attention as a teenager for his role in Mighty Ducks and Nickelodeon's sketch comedy show All That. He quickly built his fan base by launching his own hit show, Kenan and Kel, which ran for five seasons. Thompson's career was in the fast lane until a bad business manager left him broke at age 21, and he subsequently decided to leave Nickelodeon. Soon, Thompson found himself plagued with the stigma of being a former child star who no longer was a child. After much soul-searching, Thompson chose to start from scratch and build an entirely new identity for himself as an adult comedian and actor. This led to small roles on Felicity and in Barbershop 2. He then beat out dozens of comics to earn a coveted spot on Saturday Night Live. This exposure led to an audition for Fat Albert, but he didn't get the part. Several months later, a new group of film executives asked him to audition again. He won them over with his "Hey! Hey! Hey!" to earn the lead role opposite Bill Cosby. Now 29, Thompson's career is reaching new heights with several film projects in the works. He can be seen every weekend on Saturday Night Live.
Jason Dorsey, born in rural Texas, was inspired by an educator who changed his life by challenging him to leave his small town and "troublemaker" friends behind. Soon, Dorsey was working on an archaeological dig in Israel, viewing the inside of cadavers in Florida, and tutoring students in New York - all a far cry from his modest rural upbringing. At age 18, Dorsey realized he wanted to help other young adults face their fears so they, too, could see what life had to offer. With this motivation, he wrote Graduate to Your Perfect Job in his college dorm room. He then published the book himself. He turned 19 years old with $50,000 in debt, sleeping on the floor of a garage apartment. One year later, the book became a national bestseller and, eventually, a course in 1,600 schools and colleges. Dorsey followed the success of his first book with three more including his latest, My Reality Check Bounced! Now 29, Dorsey has spoken on-site at over 600 colleges, schools, and corporations across the US and as far away as Egypt, Finland, Spain, and India. In recognition of his business track record, he won the Austin Under 40 Entrepreneur of the Year award at age 25. Dorsey's non-traditional career path and unique insight into Generation Y led to his appearances on 20/20, NBC's Today Show, ABC's The View, in Fortune Magazine, and numerous other media outlets.
IN CONVERSATION: In discussing the importance of education and identity, Thompson and Dorsey bring to light the modern crossroads of race, culture, and education confronting Generation Y. Using vivid examples from their lives and those of their friends (some famous, some not), these young men reveal the importance of risk-taking, diversity, and the resilience necessary to pursue one's authentic place in the real world. Their program, "Two Gen Y'ers Take on Education, Diversity, and the Real World," resonates with audiences because these great friends have taken two entirely different paths filled with risk and rejection to get where they are now. The contrasting paths they took - along with their own personal differences - make both of their stories powerful and entertaining. The highly interactive component of the program is a must-participate for audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and aspirations. Following the interactive discussion, Thompson and Dorsey lead a Q&A session that is sure to delight while reinforcing the uniquely engaging personalities of these two young men who have taken many risks to find their niche in the world.
