Leading Hispanic Best-Selling Author of The Dirty Girls Social Club

Exclusive Representation by Greater Talent Network

Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez is a journalist and former staff writer for both the Boston Globe and The Los Angeles Times, but she always had the itch to write fiction. Fueled by creative inspiration and the desire to write the book that she always wanted to read but could never find, she wrote The Dirty Girls Social Club. A publishing phenomenon, released in both English and Spanish, the novel set off a bidding war between major publishing houses and became one of the most anticipated novels of the season. TIME magazine recently named Valdes-Rodriguez one of America's "25 Most Influential Hispanics," calling her "The Godmother of ChicaLit."

She is currently the managing editor for Latino Perspectives Magazine, an English-language monthly aimed at Latinos with a household income above $85,000 - "the 'forgotten' segment of our population" in her words. In partnership with the magazine, Valdes-Rodriguez also delivers a weekly broadcast called Latino POV, covering various issues affecting the Latino community.

Proving that friendship is the most valuable commodity any of us can have, The Dirty Girls Social Club is a vibrant portrait of six upwardly mobile Latina friends in their late twenties. The novel is a triumphant look at American women who happen to be Latina, and reveals just how rich, complex and universal that heritage can be.

Valdes-Rodriguez has harnessed the popularity of the Dirty Girls series in her acclaimed blog Dirty Girls On Top. Via her online venue, she gives readers an in-depth look into the lives of Lauren, Rebecca, Usnavys, Sara, Amber and Elizabeth. A sequel to Dirty Girls Social Club, Dirty Girls On Top was released to rave reviews.

Her first young adult novel, Haters, told the story of a teenage girl, Pasquala, who's troubled by psychic visions that she tries to ignore, in spite of her grandmother's warnings that doing so might lead to trouble. Having just moved to Southern California, and coping with a new high school where money is everything and the rich rule, "Paski" must learn to adjust to her new life and how to live in the glamorous world of "haters." Teen cable network The N is currently adapting the book into an original series, scheduled to premier next season.

In Playing with Boys, Valdes-Rodriguez once again explores themes of female friendship and love, this time in the glamorous world of Los Angeles. Three very different Latina heroines join together with a common goal: to take Hollywood by storm. Funny and charming, Playing with Boys is a heartfelt portrait of three women conquering disappointing relationships, unfair stereotypes and their own insecurities.

At the podium, Valdes-Rodriguez talks about the universal issues that face anyone looking to make their career and personal dreams come to life. Her humorous, inspiring presentations touch on cultural issues, the media, the art of writing, fighting the odds and turning dreams into reality.

AT A GLANCE: The daughter of a Cuban father and Irish-American mother, Valdes-Rodriguez is a native of Albuquerque, NM. She went to Berklee College of Music in Boston to study jazz saxophone. In one of many serendipitous moments in her career, Valdes-Rodriguez turned an essay about sexism in the jazz world into a job writing for the Boston Globe. She continued her studies at Columbia University and earned a master's degree in journalism. She completed The Dirty Girls Social Club during an intense burst, which has since been optioned for a film adaptation and is currently in the pre-production stage with Valdes-Rodriguez serving as Executive Producer and screenwriter.
